The place is located near the main touristic attractions in the Old City, and surrounded by numerous vibrant communities. Pattakorn Thanasarnaksorn and Sanon Wangsangbun and a group of shareholder established Once Again Hostel to incorporate just that to the tourist experience, so that they can “Discover the real Thailand and enjoy one of the best hostels in Bangkok!”

“Once Again is an exceptional hostel located in the heart of the ancient city/town. There are three different layers of the old town which are separated by the 2 major canals with the most inner area being the palace, the middle being an area for the upper classes, and the final area for the commoners, where they work solely for the royal palace.” This hotel is located where the commers’ used to live, and thus the area is abundant in cultural influences from those very people. The location itself is merely one kilometer away from the capital Bangkok, and thus is an inviting place for a nice stay while being able to experience and help preserve local culture around. Once Again was the very first project by a team of architects from TIDTANG STUDIO, who have enable for a comfortable and fulfilling experience for traversing the old town.

Shop through the large Chinatown/Sampheng Market, and see local culture at Sampeng.

Visit the Temple of the Golden Buddha (Wat Traimit) and the famous Chao Phraya River

“In the past, the old town was home to a monk bowl community, where hand-crafted Monk accessories were created at that time. This monk-bowl community as well as other notable communities produced their own product local products, which are all essential parts to ancient Thai culture. In the present day, most of those cultural influences have died, and the products are no longer used. Therefore, most communities have been extinguished, and now remain as common villages with no traditional purpose. So we thought, “Why don´t we preserve the culture of the communities which are still important to the modern generation, and make this a source of income for them? ”

We decided to empower the communities to develop their own products again. This is extremely difficult, as there are many different factors that go into doing this. The villagers themselves however are reluctant to do anything regarding this. Most of the people staying in the communities now are either children or old people. So, we did so by having Once Again act as a club house, that provides various resources and help to the surrounding communities, as we find them extremely valuable.

Once Again is on the verge of being renovated, where the inclusive nature of the hostel will span over the whole community in the area. The area provides a lot of tourist value, via the food, vendors, and businesses around. We plan to create a guide for the tourists for the wonderful cultural experiences around the area, such as viewing the iconic poetic works of Soon thorn Phu, and promoting other local businesses such as shops, restaurants, and different locations that aren’t yet famous but deserve recognition to bring the best out of the area and to benefit the community around the area.
