Sorachai Ban Pa Bong Piang Homestay has a terrace field known for being the most beautiful field in Thailand. When the market for rice had hit a low, the locals were making insufficient income. The farmers had decided to turn the charming environment and surrounding terrace fields into a homestay that accommodates many tourists, allowing them to experience the beauty of Ban Pa Bong Piang with a touch of the local community’s everyday life. This place has passed on hundreds of years of culture and tradition.

Location overview

Sorachai Ban Pa Bong Piang Homestay is a small homestay that sits on a mountain in Ban Pa Bong Piang, Mae Chaem district, which is in the east of the Chiang Mai province. It has an area of around 2,600 square kilometers with a population of only around 60,000. It is surely a tranquil district, but it has maintained and reserved its tradition and way of life, like rice farming, weaving sarong, along with many intriguing attractions such as temples, mountains, waterfalls, and more.

What make this location so unique or so interesting? :

This place is very suited for relaxation and making peace with oneself.

Various attractions and activities.

More than just a homestay, tourists will get to talk with the locals, support the local community by buying local goods like sarong fabric, which is a cultural heritage unique to the area. You can also travel to nearby places such as going to view the sea of mist at Doi Mon Mak, taking a dip in the hotspring, view the Mae Pan waterfall, or even witness the beauty of plants as well as learn about local botany at the agricultural station at Mae Jon Luang.

What can visitors do ?

Trulli Ease up at the homestay and reside in the midst of nature, along with learning about local cultures.

Trulli Admire the rice terrace fields and learn about the agriculture of highland farmers.

Trulli Watch a sea of mist in the morning while taking in the pollution-less air.

Trulli Support local businesses and products, such as hand woven cloths, fermented beans, northern Thai sausages, and many more goods from Mae Chaem.

Contributions of the tourist activities on the community or environment

Tourists can support the local community ways, from choosing to stay in the homestay to purchasing local goods, or even travelling around and visiting places in the area. This can help money flow in the community, since most of the population of the Mae Chaem district’s profession usually revolves around agriculture or selling goods. Tourists can help the locals make extra income in times where the agricultural market is in a low.

Furthermore, by sharing positive experiences, whether it is word of mouth or through online media, tourists can help spread and promote the homestay and community to a larger audience, which is something the locals aren’t able to due to lack of knowledge or funds to promote it themselves. Since this homestay isn’t that popular of an attraction, simple things such as writing a review or telling others about their experience at the  P’ Sorachai Ban Pa Bong Piang Homestay can have a long term impact. If the homestay is more talked about, then there would be more tourists travelling to the Mae Chaem district.
