Location overview
The Sala Din village in Nakhon Pathom neighbours the Maha Sawat canal, which is an important man-made canal for the locals. The canal was constructed following the commands of King Rama IV in the year 1859 and finished constructing in the year 1960. Aside from transport purposes, locals had developed both sides of land neighbouring the canal to be tourist attractions.
What makes this specific location / venue so unique or so interesting?
The community is tightly knitted. Locals have come together to put what resources they have to secure the community’s income, sustaining their own stability. These resources including the rice fields, lotus farms, orchid gardens, and other resources that the locals are familiar with are introduced to tourists to produce a flow of money in the community’s economy.
The community uses technology to enhance its efficiencies. The Maha Sawat community uses solar panels to convert sunlight into energy to help power a water filtering system that helps reduce the water pollution in the Maha Sawat area. The community has also adapted to using water hyacinth to produce dirt that locals later use for planting various crops and trees.
